I saw some Garbage Pail Kids trading cards at the store today. Weren’t they bad enough the first time around?

Okay, today was the first day of school, so not only is my son meeting all of his new friends, but I get to meet all of their mothers. I was kindly explaining the snack sign-up procedures to the new moms who were a bit intimidated about coming up with snacks that begin with the letter of the week-like U-that is a tricky one. I was giving examples like bananas or bagels for B, ice cream for I, etc. One of the moms turned to me and said, “You’re a healthy mom, aren’t you?” Yes, I guess I am…I try to be-don’t you? Isn’t that my job as a mom? Now, I will also say that I DID mention ice cream for I. That is not a health food and never once did I suggest that anyone bring tofu AND it does specifically say in the school handbook that snacks should be healthy. I will also say that my kids definitely know what a piece of cake looks like and they can sniff out a cookie from a mile away. I guess I just don’t want Liam to get loaded up on sugar while he is at school. I am sending Liam to school to learn and have fun, not to develop a sweet tooth bigger than the one he already has. I am sure all of the moms are lovely ladies, however, and I am looking forward to getting to know them and their children throughout the schoolyear, I just get a little hungup on the food issue.
The first day of school was a hit! He even had a little homework assignment-nothing too big. Liam was as ready as I thought he was. He walked right in the door and never looked back. His teacher had to call him back to give us a hug good-bye.
Colm also had his first day of art class today. He loves to paint and color so this was right up his alley. He loved it!
I think Liam was ready for summer to be over. Last night, while discussing going to school today he said, “Mom, isn’t it great that I’m not going to be here tomorrow.”
I love you too, honey. 🙂
