I had a SASSY telemarketer call today. She called to ask me some questions for a survey. I hung up on her before she got too far. I did some telemarketing when I was in college. I didn’t hang up on her to be rude, it just saves everyone a whole bunch of time. I know when I was a telemarketer that I would have much rather been hung up on than have someone let me go through my whole speal and then hang up on me. So, anyways, I hung up and SHE CALLED ME BACK!!! I kid you not!!!! She asked me if I hung up on her and I told her that I had. This girl needs to get some backbone. If she is going to be a telemarketer she is going to have to realize that when people hang up on you it is not a personal affront. She then proceeded to tell me that if I didn’t want to take the survey then I should have just told her. Then I hung up on her.

Today was the perfect day for apple picking. The trees were absolutely sagging with apples so the boys did not have to reach too far to get them and there was hardly anybody else there. After all that hard work we sat down for a treat of fresh apple fritters and ice cold cider. Yum!

The rain held off and Liam was able to have his first soccer game, unfortunately half of his team was at a church retreat. Since we only had three players we borrowed some from the other team. That’s the great thing about playing soccer with four-year olds…they don’t care what team they are on they just want to kick the ball. Liam had a great time and he even managed to score a goal.

I don’t think the kids and I have baked anything all summer which is not like us. I love to get the kids in the kitchen. However, the logistics of cooking with a two-year old and four-year old are a little more than my patience can tolerate. So today while Liam was off at preschool Colm and I made Surprise Muffins. The surprise is there is a bit of fruit in the middle. You can use bananas, strawberries, peaches or cherries…we used bananas.

Cutting up the bananas to go in the surprise muffins.

Tasty!

After preschool (since I didn’t think Liam should miss out just because he was at school) Liam and I made Oatmeal Stout Cake while Colm was napping.

A real professional…he’s sifting the flour.

I had to laugh at myself this morning. I was thinking about my previous blog entry about healthy eating while I was making playdough for Liam’s preschool class when I realized that I was making his playdough with whole grain flour. Atleast if they eat the playdough it will be good for them. 🙂

I saw some Garbage Pail Kids trading cards at the store today. Weren’t they bad enough the first time around?

Okay, today was the first day of school, so not only is my son meeting all of his new friends, but I get to meet all of their mothers. I was kindly explaining the snack sign-up procedures to the new moms who were a bit intimidated about coming up with snacks that begin with the letter of the week-like U-that is a tricky one. I was giving examples like bananas or bagels for B, ice cream for I, etc. One of the moms turned to me and said, “You’re a healthy mom, aren’t you?” Yes, I guess I am…I try to be-don’t you? Isn’t that my job as a mom? Now, I will also say that I DID mention ice cream for I. That is not a health food and never once did I suggest that anyone bring tofu AND it does specifically say in the school handbook that snacks should be healthy. I will also say that my kids definitely know what a piece of cake looks like and they can sniff out a cookie from a mile away. I guess I just don’t want Liam to get loaded up on sugar while he is at school. I am sending Liam to school to learn and have fun, not to develop a sweet tooth bigger than the one he already has. I am sure all of the moms are lovely ladies, however, and I am looking forward to getting to know them and their children throughout the schoolyear, I just get a little hungup on the food issue.

The first day of school was a hit! He even had a little homework assignment-nothing too big. Liam was as ready as I thought he was. He walked right in the door and never looked back. His teacher had to call him back to give us a hug good-bye.

Colm also had his first day of art class today. He loves to paint and color so this was right up his alley. He loved it!

I think Liam was ready for summer to be over. Last night, while discussing going to school today he said, “Mom, isn’t it great that I’m not going to be here tomorrow.”

I love you too, honey. 🙂

I am going to break with tradition here and say that this book was okay. It is about a woman who has an affair with her college sweetheart during homecoming. The twist is that she decides to find a new wife for her husband before divorcing him to be with her college sweetheart, who, by the way, thinks her husband was killed in a boating accident. I did not like the character in this book, but I kept reading it to see what was going to happen? Would she find him a wife? Would he find out? Would the college sweetheart find out that he really wasn’t dead? There are a lot of other books out there that are a lot better. I am SURE you can find something else to read.
