Poor Colm. It’s hard being child #2. He has to wear all of his brother’s hand-me-downs and let’s face it…they are starting to look a little rough around the edges and some of them are rough in more places than just the edges. First of all, we need to have a significant warm-up so we can rid of the pants. These poor pants have been washed a thousand times and have probably shrunk half an inch with all of the washings they’ve endured. Oh, and the shirts. Thankfully, we are done with long sleeves for the most part, but some of the short sleeves are looking pretty straggly and the summer hasn’t even begun yet. I think a trip to Target for some new summer T’s is in order for both of the boys. Those shirts are not going to make it through July, let alone September.

You have GOT to GOT to see this movie. Sean and I were in stitches! A review I read said: “Very funny in a gently twisted British way.”

I think this was my favorite Mother’s Day ever. It started on Saturday when Sean took the boys shopping for my gift and they were gone for over two hours. It was awesome! I read my book and took a nap…it was peaceful around here for over two hours and I was here all by myself. That doesn’t happen very often. If they would have come back with nothing that would have been fine…the two hours of peace I had were spectacular. On Sunday we had a yummy breakfast at Mimi’s with Sean’s side of the family, went to church and then went to the Nelson for their Mother’s Day celebration. Then we had my mom and step-dad over for dinner. Needless to say, I was pooped by the end of the day…but I was happy and pooped and that’s the best type of pooped to be. 🙂

Liam making me a beautiful bouquet.

It was a beautiful day and the boys LOVED running around the lawn in front of the Nelson. They also spent a great deal of time wrestling each other and Sean. They also found a good hill to roll down several times. A good time was had by all.

Sean was gone for six days this past week and he is finally back. I have a whole new appreciation for the single parents out there in this world.

This is my new favorite blog. I love to look at the sections in magazines that review the latest and greatest in beauty products, but it’s not very interactive and not as comprehensive, honest and entertaining as this blog. One of the other reasons I love it so is because I am too cheap to buy every whatsit that come out, so I can live vicariously through this blog and make my purchases wisely. I rarely, if ever, purchase a new, never tried before beauty product just for the sake of trying it out, but heaven help me if I have to go into Walgreen’s. Of course you have to walk through all of the shampoos, lotions, lipsticks and powders to get to the pharmacy. I know what they are trying to do to me. 🙂 I am all over their marketing skills. This is like going to Walgreen’s without my wallet-no marketing, just fun reviews of even funner (I know that’s not a word) stuff.

On Sunday morning we went with the grandparents and Great-Grandma Virginia to a super cool place to eat. It is at a teeny tiny airport outside of Paola and the runway is right outside the diner…and when I say it is right outside I mean it is RIGHT outside. You can sit and eat your omelet and watch the airplanes come and go. Since there was a bit of a wait, Grandad took Colm outside with him to look at the airplanes. A very nice pilot who was getting ready to take off let them take a peek inside, too. It is also a really cool place because people fly in just to eat at this little place. I have no idea where they are flying in from, but I have a feeling some of them aren’t flying that far. It is a breakfast joint in the mornings and they serve BBQ for lunch and dinner. It is not a fancy place, but it doesn’t matter when you’re busy looking at the planes.

Why do boys get so much delicious delight out of kicking their shoes off into the air while trying to kick a ball? It always starts off as an accident. They are truly trying to kick a ball and-oops-their shoe flies off. Then it seems as if no one can keep their shoes on whether trying to kick the ball or not. I have seen it in my own children and in students of various ages. It doesn’t matter if they are three years old or in the sixth grade. Watching your shoe fly through the air is hilarious.

The view from our front hallway into Sean’s office where Sean and the boys like to bond over their favorite game which we call knights. Honestly, I have no idea what the real name of the game is, we just call it knights and the boys love to spend time with Sean playing this game. This has been going on for months. I have no idea what they’ll do when they finally defeat the dragon or whatever the goal of the game is. They’ll probably just start over. 🙂

Okay, not really, but I got your attention, didn’t I? The library had an Asian Festival today and I got a Mehendi “tattoo”.

Before it dried….

the final product.

The boys had a good time, too. Of course, the batteries on my camera died while we were there, so I missed a lot of cool pics, but they had lots of crafts for kids, a Chinese dragon dance, various Asian foods to sample, a really cool Ki Daiko performance and much, much more.

Their names in Chinese

This is an example of a Ki Daiko performance, but it’s not the group we saw perform. You can see why the boys really liked it. Very cool.

Colm had his Quad Helix Expander put in this week. It looks like a miniature medieval torture device. He has done really well with it so far. He can’t chomp on ice or any hard, sticky, gooey foods/candy for six months though. That’s going to be hard for a kid who LOVES hard candy, especially lollipops. It makes him drool a lot more and he is sometimes harder to understand, but they said that is common for the first few days as he gets used to it. Now we get to go back to the dentist’s once a month and have it “adjusted”. This will gradually make his palette larger and allow more room for his permanent teeth when those come in. Hopefully he will get it taken out sometime around the first of November or sooner.
