We are halfway through baseball season now and Colm’s team is doing awesome! First, let me say, that he has the best coaches. One of them LOVES baseball. LOVES it. He is also great with kids. Not only does he encourage our own team, but he is great at encouraging the kids on the teams we play. Our other coach also loves baseball, but he is no nonsense. He doesn’t let the boys mess around. He makes sure the batting helmets get put back where they are supposed to be when the boys are done with them and he doesn’t let them leave practice until everything is cleaned up.
I think Colm’s team lost the first seven games they played, some of them by double-digits. It was not pretty. Now they are actually fielding the balls, making outs and hitting the ball. It has been so much fun to see how much they have grown in the past six weeks.
Now a grumble…Colm is playing coach pitch baseball…this is what kids do in between T-ball and kid pitch. So, when Colm goes up to bat his coach pitches to him. Well, last night our coach was not doing a great job of pitching and accidentally hit a couple of kids with the ball when he pitched-Colm included. When that happens the batter has the choice of either walking to first or staying at bat and trying to hit the ball. Apparently, the coach from the other team complained to the league offices today to say that our coach was PURPOSEFULLY hitting his own players so he could walk them. Seriously? Does that even make sense? Would a grown man purposefully pitch balls at little kids to win a game? So, tonight our coach didn’t pitch to our kids, someone else did. We still won.
