I got this idea from Family Fun magazine. I didn’t make them exactly the way they described since I didn’t have all of the materials they called for, but I made it work and the boys had fun.

Each person has their own “dart”. There are five circles in the street. You get ten points if your dart lands in the one closest to you, twenty points if it lands in the next closest one, etc., etc. We also tried a variation where we used the rope circles, but made them into a line. Each person got one turn to throw their dart and whoever got closest to the line without going over won.

The darts are made out of one plastic grocery bag that I covered with electrical tape and another grocery bag that I filled with one cup of dried polenta and then tied the top with a knot to prevent spillage. Next, I used the electrical tape to close off the first plastic bag and to make it have a “neck”. Lastly, I used scissors to fringe the top of the darts. I am not usually this crafty. I just happened to have the time, energy, patience and materials today.

The boys mowed the yard today. Oh my, there were so many comical moments. Colm has done this once before so he was “coaching” Liam which did not go over well. Getting them both to understand what it means to mow in a straight line. It took a while, but they finally got it. I am sure if there were any neighbors watching from their windows they were getting a few good chuckles. The boys loved it though and both of them ended up talking to the grass at some point during their mowing. Colm told the grass he was showing it who was boss.
