Our poor cat has had some pretty serious health problems lately. He was severely dehydrated, had a UTI, was vomiting a lot and they thought he was having kidney failure. It turned out that he has a thyroid issue and that his kidneys are fine. One of the problems that cats often have when they get that sick is that they will stop eating and drinking and it’s hard to get them to start back up. I had to actually use a syringe/plunger type thing to force feed/hydrate him for a while after he came off his IV. Anyways, he’s doing better now, but I have found that he seems to not want to drink from his water bowl. I will catch him drinking from puddles left in the shower, or in this picture he was trying to drink from the little area where you put the dish soap. There wasn’t any in there, so I filled it with water for him and he went to town.

Our cat doesn’t drink from her water bowl. The water has to be fresh, best directly from the faucet (she actually drinks the water as it pours from the faucet into the sink), but she’ll accept one of our water glasses in a pinch (she’ll drink from a glass as long as she can get enough of her face down in there for her tongue to reach).
