These two girls were my helpers this week at VBS. They were so awesome! I couldn’t have hand-picked better helpers than these two. They sorted, prepped, cleaned up, helped the younger kids and so much more.

Each day during VBS the kids bring a specific item for the food pantry. So far they have brought jelly, juice, hearty soups and canned tuna/salmon/chicken. Tomorrow’s food is cereal. There is also a contest going on between the groups of kids to see which group can bring in the most food (measured in pounds). They also all got to go and visit the food pantry to see where needy families go when they come to get food. Such a great learning experience.
Today was our second annual popsicle stand. We even had one customer who remembered us from last year. There was a little twist on our popsicle stand this year, however. Last summer the boys did a service project. They went door to door and collected canned goods for the local food pantry. We also had a popsicle stand last year. This year we decided to combine the two. To get a popsicle people had to either give us a can of food or pay 50 cents. Our popsicle stand earned $35.25. We also had someone donate two cans of food. So, we will use the money to go buy food and take that plus the two cans we got at the popsicle stand to our local food pantry.

The best part about running a popsicle stand…lots of popsicles. 🙂
We had many friends and neighbors who stopped by to make a donation and buy some popsicles, but one of Colm’s classmates who stopped by decided he wanted to help sell as well.
We went to the garden tonight and one of our carrots was finally ready to be picked! Isn’t it perfect? 🙂 Also, our garden neighbors were there and told us we could have as much lettuce as we’d like because they were getting ready to go out of town and wouldn’t be able to eat it all. Awesome. Looks like we’re having salad with dinner tonight.
