Time to check out and head home. We stopped by Fantastic Caverns in Springfield on the way home. I took some pictures, but they don’t really capture the feeling of being in a cave.
The caverns have a really neat history. A man stumbled across these caves right before the Civil War after his dog chased a squirrel into them. They were first officially explored by twelve women shortly after the Civil War and there was even a speak easy in the caverns during Prohibition.
I LOVE Fantastic Caverns!! I went with my brother and grandparents while we were in elementary school, then went back with Paul and my grandmother many years later. It really is remarkable!
