Palette Splitter

Saturday, May 3, 2008

Colm had his Quad Helix Expander put in this week. It looks like a miniature medieval torture device. He has done really well with it so far. He can’t chomp on ice or any hard, sticky, gooey foods/candy for six months though. That’s going to be hard for a kid who LOVES hard candy, especially lollipops. It makes him drool a lot more and he is sometimes harder to understand, but they said that is common for the first few days as he gets used to it. Now we get to go back to the dentist’s once a month and have it “adjusted”. This will gradually make his palette larger and allow more room for his permanent teeth when those come in. Hopefully he will get it taken out sometime around the first of November or sooner.

i had that very same groovy thing in my mouth for quite some time as a kid, though not as young as Colm. it truly makes such a difference in the shape of the mouth and the face.

Poor kiddo. I remember when they put in the “appliance” to keep me from sucking my fingers when I was a kid. It didn’t really bother me after a couple of days.
