I am such a bad mom. Colm rode his bike today without training wheels and I have no pictures. He asked me this morning completely out of the blue if I would take off his training wheels. I did it to humor him, but I honestly didn’t think there was any way he was going to actually be able to do it. He is still pretty wobbly with the training wheels on, so I just didn’t think he could do it. Boy, was I wrong. We practiced up and down the cul-de-sac this morning with all of the construction guys cheering him on. (He loved the audience.) He did okay and asked me to hang on to the training wheels “just in case”, but he didn’t want them back on. Then tonight before dinner he wanted to try again and this time he did REALLY well. I don’t think he’s ready for a big bike ride quite yet, but he definitely made some progress today.

Colm was just full of funny things to say today.

We were at the car dealership for over two hours today waiting on my car. When the guy finally called our name to say we were done Colm said, “We’re free!!!”

Colm has had a whopper of an afternoon. When Sean called to say he was going to have to work late I almost cried, but he did have one funny that went along with his antics. He had been sent to his room and he wanted to come down.

Colm: Mom, can I come down now?

Me: Are you ready to be a good boy?

(Pause)

Colm: I better stay up here.

One of the things that we did with Liam and are now doing with Colm to get everyone thinking about kindergarten is to read a bunch of books about kindergarten. Some of our favorites are: Off to Kindergarten, A Place Called Kindergarten, Welcome to Kindergarten, Kindergarten Rocks, The Night Before Kindergarten, Kindergarten Countdown and Countdown to Kindergarten to name a few.

This month’s pics for our neighborhood kid book club are The War with Grandpa by Robert Smith and Stink and the World’s Worst Super Stinky Sneakers by Megan McDonald. The first book is about a boy who loses his bedroom when his grandpa comes to live with him and how he declares war on his grandpa to get it back. Very sweet and cute book and it’s nice to see the relationship between the grandpa and his grandson. Stink is just a silly book about a boy who has super stinky sneakers. He and his best friend enter a stinky sneaker contest and you might be surprised who wins. (Stink is Judy Moody’s little brother if you are familiar with those books.)

I went to the eye doctor for my yearly check-up (that I probably haven’t had in about four years) and found out I have histoplasmosis. Before the doctor told me what I had she asked me if I had ever lived on a farm or had grandparents that had lived on a farm. No and no would be the answers to those questions. She said that often people who raise chickens get it. So now I am totally grossed out. She said that I had it a long time ago and that it is totally healed, but it still grosses me out. I can’t figure out where or how I would have gotten it either. Weird.

This is the book we are reading for book club this month. I really liked it. It was more of a beach read, I think you might call it, but it definitely had some substance as well. Three women spend the summer in Nantucket to try and recoup from what’s going on in their real lives. They get a little help from a local college boy and a little help from each other.

Tonight was BV Rec night at the T-Bones game, so all the BV Rec baseball, softball and T-ball teams were invited to come. They got to parade around the field with their team before the game, say their team name into the microphone and then Colm’s team was picked to be “buddies” with the T-Bones players. They got to run out with the players at the beginning of the game and their names were announced over the loudspeaker along with their T-Bones player’s name. It was pretty cool. Of course, I didn’t have my camera and the iPhone camera doesn’t have zoom.

Liam tested for his green belt tonight and got it! We were so proud of him. I think it is pretty funny that he got points taken off for not being loud enough; they should hear him at home. I told his instructor that he was quiet because he was nervous which he said was good….if you’re nervous then you know it’s important. His instructor also asked him, after he broke his board, how he makes it look so easy. 🙂

He now gets to be in a different class. That is all fine and dandy, but now he is at the bottom of the pack. When he was an orange belt, he was at the head of the class with all the yellow and white belts below him and he liked that. There are certain benefits that go along with being the highest belt in the class and now he has to start all over.
