Colm had his Quad Helix Expander put in this week. It looks like a miniature medieval torture device. He has done really well with it so far. He can’t chomp on ice or any hard, sticky, gooey foods/candy for six months though. That’s going to be hard for a kid who LOVES hard candy, especially lollipops. It makes him drool a lot more and he is sometimes harder to understand, but they said that is common for the first few days as he gets used to it. Now we get to go back to the dentist’s once a month and have it “adjusted”. This will gradually make his palette larger and allow more room for his permanent teeth when those come in. Hopefully he will get it taken out sometime around the first of November or sooner.

This makes SO much sense, but I never knew this until recently. If your kids have seasonal allergies it is a good idea to make sure they take a shower before they go to bed at night to get all of the pollen, etc. out of their hair and off of their bodies. Otherwise, all of that stuff they are allergic to stays in their hair, ends up on their pillow and they end up sleeping in it all night which is not good. We have been taking a lot of baths/showers around here lately.

We went to Family Appreciation Night at Liam and Colm’s new school tonight and they were having a used uniform sale, at least that’s what I thought it was. They were really giving the uniforms away!!! That’s right, just giving them away. I got a sweater vest, a cardigan, several pairs of pants, five white shirts, a blue shirt and two pairs of shorts. I have no idea if they even fit or not, or if they will fit once school starts, but who cares…they were free!!!

This story is really several stories-the story of a brother and sister, the story of a husband and a wife and the story of a mom and her son. It is also a story of the good and evil that lurks in everyone. I like the way this book ended. It didn’t leave me wondering what happened. The author wrapped things up very nicely.

The boys love Scooby Doo. They were watching it the other day when a Howard Stern commercial came on. Why would they put a Howard Stern commercial on in the middle of Scooby Doo? It didn’t have anything graphic or horrible and I am sure the boys didn’t even notice, but shouldn’t they be having commercials for Sugar Pops or the latest and greatest toy? Weird.

Liam’s class incubated twelve eggs and so far eight of them have hatched. He was so excited! (There was a little worry that none of them were going to hatch, but thankfully that wasn’t an issue.) Now they are voting on names. Liam wants to name one of them Speedy.

Yesterday, Colm and I ventured out to “the farm” as we call it in our house. It was a bit on the chilly side, but we had a good time anyways.

Here is a snippet from Liam’s violin concert today. They all did a GREAT job!

Liam nominated his Godfather as the kindest person in the metro. To nominate someone you have to draw a picture of them and write a sentence or two about why they are special to you. Liam wrote, “John is my Godfather. He was in the war.” John is in the Army Reserve and got back from Iraq last fall after being there for over a year. Liam LOVES his Godfather and I think Liam is pretty impressed by John’s Army uniform, too. Anyways, they had a special assembly at Liam’s school for all of the nominees. It was great that John could take an afternoon off of work and come to Liam’s school. Liam was thrilled!

Colm got to celebrate his birthday at school today, and as a special treat, Sean read a book to his class.
