Think of everything you said today and then think about having to repeat everything at least twice. What? is Colm’s new favorite phrase. I don’t know if he can’t hear me, doesn’t understand me or is just trying to drive me bananas, but he IS driving me bananas. I hope it’s just a phase.
Sean was a Top DOG at Liam’s school this week. It is a wonderful program and Liam was absolutely ecstatic that Sean was going to be at his school all day. Dad’s show up at 8:15 and help get kids out the cars at drop-off and their child gets to help, too. Then they get to do the pledge together on the morning news show. After that the dad helps in the library, office, P.E., in the lunchroom, etc. while the child is going about their normal day. Sean also got to eat lunch with Liam and help in Liam’s class for a while. It was a great day for both of them, but Sean came home and promptly fell asleep. He was “dog” tired. 🙂
This is Colm’s first year playing soccer. He has wanted to play since he was about 18 months old since he has been watching Liam do it for the past two years. He loves it and was so excited to get started and he’s not too bad if I do say so myself. Signing him up to play was worth it just for the photo opp. Isn’t he adorable?
It’s not technically Colm’s birthday yet, but my brother and his family were going to be in town this weekend, so we decided to celebrate a little early so they could join in on the festivities, too. Colm definitely didn’t have any problem with celebrating early. What kid is going to turn down cake and presents?
I have read several books by this author and I love the way she writes. One of the things she does is she will mention something as part of the storyline that you know is important, but you just can’t put your finger on how it fits into the story. You HAVE to keep reading to figure it out. It makes it very difficult to put the book down! 🙂 It’s a long book, but good.
I just applied for two teaching jobs for next year. Yikes! They are both part-time…my goal would be to get one of the jobs, not both. Honestly, I am not sure if I could actually logistically have either one of these jobs and be able to take and pick up the boys from school, but I will never know if I don’t try. 🙂
My baby brothers turn 21 today! That officially makes me old! I was thirteen when they were born. I used to give them bottles and burp them and in return they would poop all over me. We would walk them around the kitchen and bounce and walk and bounce and walk to get them to stop crying. My dad used to fill the wagon thing on the back of the tractor with pillows and we would put them in there and he would drive them up and down the street to get them to fall asleep. I taught them Itsy Bitsy Spider. Now they are probably totally wasted passed out somewhere. Ah, the memories.
Liam is a packrat.  All you have to do is open his bedroom door and it is obvious.  He loves to save bits and bobbles, wrappers, slips of paper…you name it.  So, tonight I was getting his lunch sack out of his backpack and decided to explore the depths of his backpack.  This is a sampling of what I found:
I have absolutely no idea where he got the ketchup packets!
All the kinders and first graders at Liam’s school are going to have a visit from Happy Bear in the next week or so.  Happy Bear is a program that teaches children about unwanted touches from pushing to sexual abuse.  The school has a program for parents to learn about it.  I thought it might be important to go and see what exactly they were going to be telling them and how.  We got to see the entire presentation just as it will be shown to the kids and it is very well done.  They just talk about different situations that they may come across in school or at home that are either unwanted to wanted touches, ie a hug from mom, someone pushing you line, your sister tickling you when you’re trying to eat, etc.  They go through all these scenarios and then the last one is a babysitter who does not have good intentions.  Ugh.  It pains me that my child might need these skills.  Again, it is very well done and is in good taste, but I hate that it even has to be discussed.  Now, to the title of the post…there are probably about 90 kinders at Liam’s school and only eight parents showed up to the info night for kinder parents.  I can’t believe that!  They are going to talk to your kid about getting their private parts touched and what to do about it and only eight people thought it might be a good idea to come check it out! Now, I understand that people are busy or they’ve already seen the presentation because they have older kids or whatever, but eight people is RIDICULOUS! Poor Colm. He was so brave today. They fit him for his spacer today which means they fit the brackets on his teeth and took the impression. One of his teeth is an odd shape so they had a hard time finding a bracket that would fit. They had to try several times. He was so brave. He got to watch Dora while they tortured him, so that helped a little. The impression went as well as you can expect. If you have ever had one, you know what I mean. I hated braces-HATED them…the whole process was awful and I was twelve or so, not three. The next time we go back they will actually cement the “appliance” into his mouth. Fun times.
