The boys got their new belts tonight that they tested for last week. Here they are turned away from their instructor taking off their old belts. Colm is now an orange stripe and Liam is a black stripe which means he will be testing for his black belt in November!

This is one of my favorite events at the boys’ school. Local artists fill the gym with exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities. The art room is open for various projects. The school is transformed into an art museum with children’s artwork covering the walls and the library’s reading stairs are transformed into a stage where children share their musical talents. We missed the sign-ups last year since we were so new, but this year Liam got signed up and he played The Two Grenadiers.

Mardi Gras at our house is pretty tame, but it does involve a King’s Cake, beads and festive hats.

I am sure Salvador Dali is turning in his grave, but I had fun making it and I think the kids will have fun creating their own Dali creations in a few weeks when I go into the boys’ classrooms to share this project with their classes.
Oh, the tears that have been shed over the stuffed animals vs. the dog. See, our sweet, sweet dog does not want to tear up the stuffed animals…he just wants to rip out their eyes. So, if you leave your stuffed animal on the floor or you leave your bedroom door open…this is what’s likely to happen.

I love my 3rd grade Friday Math Club. I didn’t want to take a picture of all them since they aren’t all my kids and I don’t know how their parents would feel about me putting their faces on here, but here is one of them incognito working on some looping patterns. She figured out (after much, much work) that she had made a mistake early on and her pattern wasn’t working, but we had a lot of fun and she did get it figured out.

The third graders have been studying Pacific Northwest Native Americans.

Being flexible is an important part of TKD…the more flexible you are, the higher you can kick.

Self defense

Liam and the girl in this picture were the only two red belts testing last night. They will both be training for the next 8 months to earn their black belt in November. Pretty cool!
