Today was the first day that the congregation from our church could go into the church and see its progress. It is still in the very beginning stages…gravel floor, no windows, etc., but it was neat to actually get up close and see how far they’ve come.
The boys had a day off from school so we decided to check out the local bowling alley.
The boys’ school had their annual fundraiser today. It was so much fun and the weather was perfect!

A well-deserved popsicle
I rarely get behind with my scrapbooking and when I do it’s only a month or so at the most. Right now I am six months behind. I have organized my scrapbooking closet (for the most part) and now the box of Creative Memories albums and such that I ordered has arrived. Now I am just waiting for our mail carrier to deliver my pictures and I can get to work!
Colm has the strength and the coordination to open canned goods now and he likes to do it. If it’s in the pantry and it’s in a can and it’s food he likes, chances are he ate it for lunch this week.
When you move as far as we did, there are some things you have to leave behind…like that chili in the back of the freezer that’s been there since who knows when and those blueberries you froze last year that didn’t get eaten. I like my new clean uncluttered freezer.
I loved this book! It is a memoir and a cookbook all rolled into one. The recipes reflect various stages of the author’s life and each recipe has a story. These aren’t just ordinary recipes either…at several points during the book I think my mouth was watering. If you enjoy cooking and getting creative in the kitchen you should read this book. You will be inspired.

Liam got invited to his first Oregon birthday party this week. He was so excited. When I went to go drop him off they said that Colm could stay, too. Bonus!!! I have to say that this birthday party was probably in the top two birthday parties we have ever been to. It was awesome. It had a Greek Mythology theme; Liam was in heaven. When we first got there, they had homemade cardboard shields (the kind a knight might use) for the kids to decorate. They also had swords made out of pool noodles. Once they had their shield done they could grab a sword and go out in the backyard and battle with the other boys.
One of the games they played at the party was freeze tag, but the person who was it was Medusa and when they tagged someone they had to freeze/turn to stone. This is Liam with the Medusa hat:
They also had a game where all of the kids got nerf-like slingshots and they had to shoot the chimera. The birthday boy’s mom painted the picture of the chimera for them to shoot at.
They also used their slingshots to defeat these creatures from the underworld that the birthday boy and his brothers had made out of these Bionicle-like toys. Slingshots aimed and ready to fire.
This is all of the boys in the Trojan horse going into the city. What actually happened was they went up onto the deck/play structure where the birthday boy’s dad and godfather were waiting to welcome the Trojan horse into the city. Boy were they “surprised” when the horse turned out to be filled with a bunch of soldiers. 🙂
The last game they played was hitting the pinata, only the pinata was a homemade Trojan horse.

It was by far one of the most creative birthday parties the boys have ever been to. It also helped that it was a beautiful day!
Is it a big deal that I baked cookies this week? Yes! I have not baked anything since before Christmas. When we were getting ready to move I didn’t exactly have time to bake and then once we did move all of my mixing bowls and pretty much everything else I needed to bake was in storage. Now that I have my measuring spoons, mixing bowls and cookie sheets I can finally bake again. I made chocolate chip oatmeal cookies…one of my favorites.
