We have never gotten a health alert from Colm’s school before. Never. Liam’s school will send them home if someone in their class has pink eye, chicken pox, strep, etc. So, yesterday there was a bright pink piece of paper in Colm’s backpack that said “Health Alert” at the top. Now, I haven’t gotten all wigged out about H1N1, but that is definitely where my mind went for a split second when I saw that note. It turns out a bunch of kiddos in Montessori and in the primary grades have come down with fifth disease. I’ll take fifth disease over N1H1 any day.

images-5Colm loves Bad Dog, Marley.  He got it from the school library and we have read it SEVERAL times.  It is a cute story though and I can totally relate.  We once had a dog who we loved to pieces, but we couldn’t live with her…she was tearing our house, fence, etc. to pieces.

The Tub People’s Christmas is Colm’s new favorite book. It is a cute book and (if I may put on my reading teacher hat for a moment) is a great book for kids to practice predicting.

We went to go see Santa at the high school last weekend. We enjoyed a light breakfast, made some crafts and then visited with Santa. There are no pics of Santa here because they are coming in the mail.

We also had a marvelous Thanksgiving dinner, went to two birthday parties, went ice skating, went to church, watched the Polar Express and spent a lot of time sitting around doing a whole lot of nothing.

Bolt is such a good movie!!! We took the boys today and they loved it and so did we. Would we have gone to see it if we didn’t have kids? No, but it is a movie that both parents and kids can enjoy which doesn’t always happen.

Just when I thought we had read every Halloween book written within the last thirty years…Colm found another one. We went to a different library this week and they have some books we haven’t read. Joy! This is his favorite one from this week.

We were in the car today and Colm told Liam that he wanted to marry him. Liam then informed Colm that they couldn’t get married because two boys can’t get married, it has to be a boy and a girl. Right, Dad? There was a pause and Sean and I looked at each other and gave each other that knowing grin and mumbled something about well…if you live in Vermont… We then told him he was right…it has to be a boy and a girl. He’s six and I am not ready to go there, especially with Colm listening in.

It is so much fun to be a parent on the days when your kids are learning something new. To see their eyes light up with pride is enough to make any parent’s day. Colm came home from school today reading. He was SO proud of himself and he read those same words over and over and over again to me in the car and then to Sean when he came home from work. It was great! There were high fives all around. Then to see Liam at Tae Kwon Do today. He is working really hard to get his first stripe. He is going to try and get it next week and I think he will. One more thing and then I will stop bragging about our children…Colm is a rock star ice skater. I am serious. He isn’t going to be in the Olympics any time soon, but he is doing awesome. Even if he wasn’t doing great, what makes me smile from ear to ear is that he is trying something new and he loves it. Being a parent can be the hardest job on the planet, but there are days like today when you get paid in smiles, hugs, high fives and accomplishments that make it all worth it.
