Mommathon

I was running the garbage disposal today and it sounded kind of funny. I peeked in and found a bouncy ball. No wonder they couldn’t find it.

Okay, it’s not exactly cold yet, but this recipe was good tonight and would also be good on a cold night. The only thing I did differently is I added a can of italian diced tomatoes to the onions and the green peppers. Also, I served it with some yummy Farm to Market Italian bread, but we didn’t butter it. We used the bread to sop up the juices. Mmmmmm…

I had an interview on Monday for the BEST job in the best location doing something that I love to do. It was a consultant job in a library working with children’s literacy issues. Any job in a library is the perfect job for me. On Tuesday I found out I didn’t get the job. Oh well. I am glad I even got an interview. Based on the large stack of applications that my interviewers had I can assume I had a lot of competition and they were already two months behind on the project I was interviewing for. They said they felt like I had the right qualifications, but they were looking for someone who had more experience organizing and recruiting volunteers on a larger scale. I can’t argue with them on that point.

You know it’s a bad day when you have to break out a form of discipline you’ve never used before. We had to break out the soap. Yep. Someone got a little soap in their mouth this afternoon. I am sure you can guess who it was. It wasn’t a horrible word, but it was not a word we tolerate and certainly not one we tolerate when directed at another person, especially when that person is me. Yes, he was mad at me because he had been sent to his room for a number of reasons. He is still in his room right now. When I left him he was licking his pillow trying to get the soap taste off of his tongue and I would bet some serious dollars that he is asleep right now. To say he needed a nap would be a serious understatement.

This is a very cute story. Poor Jeb’s pumpkin patch is going to get ambushed by a bunch of crows right before Halloween. He comes up with a very clever plan to save his pumpkin patch and there is a little twist at the end, too.

Soccer season started for Liam this weekend. He had two games plus they got their “official” soccer pictures taken. Colm starts next weekend.

I kid you not!!! Eco Elvis came to the boys’ school on Friday to talk about saving the Earth, recycling, etc. He sings songs like Compost Hotel, Earth Day Rock and Viva Las Vegans. Seriously. It was hilarious AND he does it for free as long as you book him during normal business hours and it’s in the metro area.

I have wanted to read this book for a long time, a couple of years maybe. I could never find it at our library though. Well, I finally got it through another library and got the chance to read it. It is basically a collection of short stories about her not-so-glamorous childhood and life. I had to turn it in and it couldn’t be renewed. I got through most of it though and that was fine; it wasn’t a serious pageturner or anything. I think the author is better known for her other memoir called Fat Girls in Lawn Chairs.
