I sent away in the mail for a sample of Kashi’s chocolate chip cookies. Do you know how much fun it is to go to the mailbox and find a chocolate chip cookie waiting for you? It makes for a good day, my friends. You can have a good day, too. Just click here. The boys saw these at Costco this summer and wanted them but I didn’t really see the point in buying them at the time. Now that they eat lunch at school every day these make for a fun way to eat fruit and they are a quick and easy addition to their lunchboxes.

Thumbs Up After He Scores a Goal

Mortimer’s Christmas Manger by Karma Wilson is SUCH a cute book. Mortimer (the mouse) is tired of living in his little mouse hole when he stumbles upon a little house set up in the people house he lives in. It is just his size so he decides to move in except there are all these little people statues in the way and a baby statue is in the bed. He moves all the statues, kicks the baby out of bed and settles in until one day he is listening to the family and realizes whose house he is sleeping in. Very cute.

Perfect Man by Troy Wilson about made me cry. It’s about a boy who is a fanatic about his favorite superhero, Perfect Man. PF retires about the same time school starts up again and the boy is convinced that his new teacher is Perfect Man because of all the superhero things his teacher does. Seriously, I got choked up a little bit.

Our yard needed to be mowed in a very serious way. It has rained quite a bit lately and the high school boy who mows for us had seemingly disappeared. His schedule changed a bit because school started and then he has football practice/games, but he was still pretty good about coming by up until about two weeks ago. The grass was getting a bit unruly, so I called him. I was very nice about it and I also reminded him that I owed him for the past two times he had mowed. I figured that would get him over here. It seemed to work. I called him this morning and he was over here tonight mowing. I asked him how football was and he said he had to quit because he had a concussion and was having seizures. Hmmmm….maybe that’s why he hadn’t been mowing our lawn.

Is it tacky to shop at your neighbor’s garage sale? If it is, oh well, the damage is already done. I got a set of children’s encyclopedias, two Larryboy videos and a United States map puzzle all for $11.

I can totally see the boys belly laughing at this one…

I know I get ideas from other people when they post their dinner ideas, so here is what he had/are having for dinner this week:

Tuesday:  Penne with Parsley and Sun-dried Tomatoes (olive oil, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes,                                                                                            parsley, salt, pepper, parmesan)*
Wednesday: Lumpe Burritos  (potatoes, green peppers, onions, cumin, fresh parsley and                                                                      cilantro, tortillas, refried beans, cheese, tomatoes and sour cream)*
Thursday:  Salmon Burgers with a salad and fresh fruit

My first instinct, when Colm’s teacher told me today in pick-up line that he  had “punched” another child in the lunch line today and then proceeded to use his feet to kick  kids awake after naptime and that he had a note in his backpack explaining everything, was to take away all of his TV time.  I knew it would make an impression; I also knew it would make him SUPER mad.  He got in the car after school and immediately opened up his backpack.  He is smart enough to know that he did NOT want me to read that note.  Oh, he screamed and he yelled.  He REALLY did not want me reading that note.  Honestly, if she hadn’t told me about the note, I think he would have done something with it and I would have been none the wiser.  Anyways, I am glad we have our long drive home because it gave me some time to think.  Taking away his TV time was a reaction, but I truly didn’t think it would teach him anything as much as he would just be super pissed and we would have a whole other situation on our hands.  So, instead, he wrote his teachers an apology letter and drew a picture to go with it.  I e-mailed his teachers to let them know to look for it in his backpack.  We’ll see how tomorrow goes.  If there is more of the same, then we will look into something that will make more of an impression.

I went to the library the other day and found five or six random books and this was one of them.  I really liked this book.  It is a memoir and it is about how the author made it through the first year after her divorce with the help of some chickens (live ones) her daughter talked her into getting.  It is not a men-are-pigs or a life-is-miserable-I cry-all-of-the-time divorce book.  There is very little mention of tears or sadness.  It is mostly about her carrying on and how she did it.  It is a quick read, too.
